Professional Year:  Intern/Student Teacher Assessment

Use the following instrument to assess your intern or student teacher.  After you have completed the assessment, print a copy, and submit on-line.  Sign the last page and deliver the completed assessment to the Office of Teacher Education (E722) OR send to Office of Teacher Education, Boise State University, 1910 University Dr., Boise, ID 83725-1746.  NOTE:  The "Comments" sections are limited to 350 characters.

Select the course in which the assessment is completed:  (BIL=Bilingual/ESL; ELEM=Elementary; SEC=Secondary; EC=Early Childhood; SPED=Special Education; KINES=Kinesiology; MUS=Music; Art=[Use the SEC option])
Using the evidence provided (observations, work samples, discussions, etc.) and your professional judgment, select the description that best matches the candidate's performance.  It is understood that most candidates will "Meet Expectations."  If a candidate is "Unsatisfactory" or "Exceeds Expectations," please note in the "Comments" section (350 characters max.), the behaviors which justify this rating.  Additional documentation may be provided.

A.  Makes adaptations and/or modifications to lessons for individual students.
B.  Uses information about students' families, cultures, and communities.

OVERALL RATING:  Understands how students differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional opportunities that are adapted to students with diverse needs.

OVERALL RATING:  Understands individual and group motivation and behavior and creates a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction and active engagement in learning.

B.  Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in both speaking and writing.
C.  Demonstrates sensitivity to cultural differences in communication.
OVERALL RATING:  Uses a variety of communication techniques to foster inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in and beyond the classroom.
COMMENTS:
7.  INSTRUCTIONAL PLANNING SKILLS:
A.  Creates effective short-range and long-range instructional plans that align with curriculum goals and objectives.
B.  Uses information from students, parents, colleagues, and school records to assist in planning instruction.
OVERALL RATING:  Plans and prepares instruction based on knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and curriculum goals.
